Our story ◆ Made in the West

Built by people who actually go outside.

GemGear is an American outdoor brand for everyone who'd rather be in a national park. We test our gear on the trips we take ourselves.

Most Americans live within a day's drive of a national park.

GemGear builds the gear that makes the trip — short or long, planned or improvised — actually possible.

Field-tested. Built to last. Backed by real people.

Born from

How we started ◆

Born from a frustrated trunk.

We started GemGear in a Yosemite parking lot in 2018, after a tent pole snapped on a six-day trip and we spent the rest of the week patching it with pine resin and prayer. The rest of our gear wasn't much better — fragile, fashion-forward, sourced overseas with no path to repair.

We thought: someone should build outdoor gear like a piece of furniture. Materials you can fix. Construction you can trust. A guarantee that lasts longer than the trip. So we built it ourselves — one product at a time, tested on actual trips.

Every product gets

How we test ◆

Every product gets a real season.

Before a product makes our catalog, it spends a full season in the field. Sierra granite. Olympic rain. Glacier wind. Desert heat. The team takes prototypes on real personal trips — not staged photo shoots — and reports back.

If a tent leaks in the rain, we fix the seam. If a sleeping bag flattens after twenty nights, we rework the baffles. If a pack hurts after thirty miles, we change the suspension. The product doesn't ship until it earns its place.

Your partner in

Our promise ◆

Your partner in the wild.

Gear we'd take ourselves — backed by real humans, not chatbots. We answer every email, help you pick a kit, and walk you through fixes when something goes wrong on the trail.

Every product carries a 1-year defect warranty on materials and manufacturing. If something fails inside the first year because of a defect, we'll repair, replace, or refund — your call.

What we stand by.

Three commitments that show up in every product we make.

01 / Tested

Tested by real trips.

Every product spends a season in the field — Yosemite, Olympic, Glacier — before we put it in the catalog. If it doesn't hold up out there, it doesn't ship.

02 / Built

Made to last.

We choose materials and construction methods you can repair, refresh, and pass down. No throwaway gear. No planned obsolescence.

03 / Supported

Backed by real people.

Free trip-planning advice from staff who've actually walked the route, and a 1-year defect warranty on everything we ship. Talk to a person, not a chatbot.
